Ecobac is similar to bacterial products
produced by numerous companies.
Ecobac has advantages over many of its
competitors which make Ecobac more active
at lower doses than its competitors:
1. Ecobac contains two types of
Gram-negative bacteria which degrade the monomers of food
materials much more rapidly than other bacteria. However,
Gram-negative bacteria are much harder to formulate into a
stable product with adequate shelf life and the main
achievement of the technology of Ecobac is
the product shelf life (see Product Limitations and
Requirements).
2. Ecobac also contains 3 types of
Gram-positive bacteria in the genus Bacillus which
hydrolyse polymers such as fats, greases, starches and
proteins into monomers readily digestible by the
Gram-negative bacteria. The Gram-positive bacteria also
serve to flocculate the bacterial mixture at the site of
waste treatment.
3. Ecobac has been formulated into a dry
powder with 100% stability of all 5 types of bacteria at
5°C over 6 months, after which viability and performance
slowly decreases over the next 6 months. Most products of
this type have a product stability problem (generally
undeclared) if the product contains the more active
Gram-negative bacteria.
4. Ecobac contains enough nutrient
additives to support a 10-fold increase in potency if the
product is pre-incubated in water for 8 - 24 hours
(depending on temperature) before being used. Use at least
4 litres water per 100 g powder.
The effective dose rate of Ecobac for
commercial grease traps is 250 grams per 1000 litres,
administered initially twice a week to clear away old
grease, followed by a maintenance dose rate of once or
twice per month. The effective dose rate of
Ecobac for sewage pump wells is 200 grams
per day to prevent build up of grease and odour.
